About Niger State College of Education, Minna
This school was established in 1975 by the government of the then North Western State. However, it was not until 1983 that the school attained the status of a college of education after obtaining approval from the defunct civilian government.
Late Dr. Umar Sanda Ahmadu was appointed as the inaugural provost of the institution, and he was succeeded by Dr. Gambo T. Yusuf in 1988. The first appointed administrative secretary of the college was Alhaji Muhammed Giwa, and he assumed office at about the same time as Late Dr. Umar Sanda Ahmadu.
Niger State College of Education, Minna has a vision of revolutionizing the Nigerian educational sector by producing and breeding the next generation of able and competent teachers. Prof. Faruk Haruna is the present Provost of the school, and he is not only the academic head of the school but also the chief executive and administrator. Mallam Yabagi A. Alfa (Registrar), Alhaji Lawal Ahmadu Attahiru (Bursar), Dr. Muhammad Muhammad Shaku (Deputy Provost Academics), Dr. Fati Sule (Deputy Provost Admin) and Mallam Abubakar Mohammed Bida (Librarian) complete the school’s administrative team.
Niger State College of Education offers Pre-NCE training to students in a bid to prepare them for the rigors and challenges of the main NCE program. Courses undertaken by students at the Pre-NCE level include Technical Education, Business Education, Home Economics, and Science Education. The College also offers a Part-time program for students who work or have other daily engagements. Impressively, the school has top-notch facilities and amenities, and the school environment is very conducive for learning and reading. The school has six (6) faculties/colleges namely,
