About Godfrey Okoye University
This is a school founded by Reverend Father Professor Dr. Christian Anieke in 2009. The school was founded by the Catholic Diocese of Enugu. In fact, it is the first Catholic-owned University in Sub-Saharan Africa. In November 2009, the university got an operational license from the National Universities Commission and started with a student population of 215 students. The school currently boasts about 2000 fully registered students. In December 2013, the first set of 100 students graduated from the school. There are currently three (3) faculties in Godfrey Okoye University and they are
- Faculty of Management and Social Sciences – Accounting, Banking and Finance, Economics, International Relations, Management, Marketing, Mass Communication, Philosophy, Sociology, Public Administration, Religious Studies
- Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences – Biochemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geography and Environmental Mnagement, Geology and Mining, Industrial Chemistry, Industrial Physics, Mathematics, Microbiology, Physics with Electronics, Statistics and Demography, Architecture and Design
- Faculty of Education – Biology Education, Business Education, Chemistry Education, Economics Education, and Literature studies Education, History Education, Mathematics Education, Physics Education, Social studies Education, Education Management, Guidance and Counseling and Primary Education.
Godfrey Okoye University has affiliations with some international universities such as Birmingham City University (UK), Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, New York (USA), Bowie State University, Maryland (USA), All Hallows College, Dublin (Ireland), University of Stellenbosch Business School (South Africa), Pontifical Lateran University, Rome (Italy) etc.
A conducive learning environment, availability of sporting facilities, well-furnished classrooms, e-learning center, e-library, spacious car park, well-equipped library and beautiful structures are some of the factors that distinguishes Godfrey Okoye university from other universities in the country. The staff and lecturers of the university are well paid hence a stable academic calendar.
