About Federal College of Education, Umunze
Federal College of Education (Technical) (FT-UMUNZE) Umunze is one of the eight (8) colleges of Education established by Decree No. 4 of 14th March 1986. Since its inception in 1990, the college which commenced with an initial 70 student enrolled has grown rapidly to a student population of over 2000 and increasing staff strength.
At its inception, following a presidential order, the college took over the buildings and infrastructures of the then All Saints Anglican Secondary School in 1990 under the leadership of the first provost, Dr. T. I. Eze. Lectures commenced immediately at the temporary site in May 1990 with a few staff and 70 pioneer students.
In 1999/2000 academic session, deliberate steps were made to relocate the school to its permanent site, Nsogwu. Led by Dr. C. Nnaka, buildings for the School of Agric and Home Economics Education were erected, and lectures have commenced at Nsogwu.
Administratively, the College has seven schools, namely:
- School of Agric and Home Economics Education,
- School of Business Education,
- School of Computer and Science Education,
- School of Education and Technical Teachers Certificate,
- School of Fine and Applied Arts Education,
- School of General studies and Pre-NCE
- School of Industrial Technical Education
They offer both NCE and Degree Programmes in
- General Education,
- Vocational Technical Education,
- Science Education and Languages.
Degree courses are offered in affiliation with the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Anambra State.
