About Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka
Federal College of Education, Akoka is the first Technical Teachers College to be established in Nigeria. It was founded by the Federal Government in 1967 to “groom and produce qualified teachers in vocational, technical and commercial educational disciplines and to issue the Technical Teachers’ Certificate (TTC) for specialists in technical and commercial education.
In 1982, the name of the College was changed to FCE (T) Akoka, due to the expansion in curricular and courses being offered. Its motto is Knowledge, skill, and service, its sizeable student population of fewer than two thousand contributing to its unique characteristics of maturity and excellence.
The college is located in Akoka, Lagos state and occupies a land mass of about fifteen(15) acres.They moved to this permanent site, along St. Finbarr’s College Road, Akoka in September 1975, after eight years of temporary sojourn at the campuses of Yaba College of Technology and Yaba Trade Centre.
The philosophy of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Akoka, as reflected on the logo of the College is “Knowledge, Skill, and Service.” At FCE Akoka students are trained to have a thorough mastery of both theoretical and the practical aspects of their major teaching subjects.
The academic programmes of the College initially consisted of five schools, namely;
- School of Business Education
- School of Education
- School of Science Education
- School of Technical Education and
- School of Vocational Education
The Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka is approved by the National Universities Commission and offers the award of Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and undergraduate first degree courses in technology education, having affiliated to the Federal University of Technology, Minna.
With a very rich curriculum and heritage Federal College Education (Technical) Akoka, prides itself not only as the first but also the best Federal College of Education in Nigeria.
