The West African Examination Council has announced the postponement of English Language examination which was scheduled to hold on Saturday, September 22, 2018, to September 29, 2018.

The English language examination which is undoubtedly one of the most important subjects in the current ongoing Second Series Examination and Senior School Certificate Examination generally has been postponed after the announcement from the council via the council twitter handle and website.

Below is an extract from the tweet by WAEC’s official twitter handle.

English Language papers will be written on September 29, 2018. Please, go to our registration site (http://registration.waecdirect.org) and download the timetable.

Although WAEC is yet to give an actual reason for the postponement of the examination, speculations have been going around that the examination body decided to postpone the examination because of the gubernatorial election which was held in Osun State on September 22, 2018. However, there are more speculations that the examination body decided to postpone the examination because of leaked questions.

All efforts to get WAEC to deny or confirm the speculations and to give the reason behind the postponement of the examination has proved futile.

It will be recalled that WAEC warned students taking the ongoing private senior certificate examination to stay away from fraudsters who are claiming to have live questions for sale online.

It is likely in this regard that the examination body decided to postpone the examination to reduce any chance of malpractice while also giving the students from Osun State who are sitting for the exam to exercise their political right in the Osun 2018 gubernatorial election.
