A 26-year-old student at Usmanu Danfodio University Sokoto identified as Simon Godwin Idoko graduates from the school with a First Class despite having to sit for Jamb 6 times. The young man gave an explanation of how he took JAMB 6 times before he finally got admission to study applied science at the Usmanu Danfodio University and finally graduated with first class.

In his words, he said, “I left secondary school in the year 2007 from Wesley High School, Otukpo where I was awarded the overall best in Mathematics. I took UTME six times before I got admission to study Applied Chemistry. I was initially applying for Medicine and Surgery due to the advice from different people.”

He also stated that though he sat for UTME 6 times, he never scored below 200 in UTME and that the most disappointing time during his period of struggling to get admission was when he scored 264 in UTME and 68 in Post UTME in 2012 but still he was not offered admission to study any course.

He further stated how frustrating it was and that the only course he was ever offered throughout the period of the six years was Applied Chemistry which he studied at the Usmanu Danfodio University.

The young man who said he is hoping to start his M.Sc immediately after NYSC also explained that achieving First Class is not an easy task as you need to be ready to do what ordinary students cannot do such as spending money on good textbooks, spending more time reading and spending less time on social activities

News of the young man’s story has been circulating various social media platforms and many youths and fellow students have been commending his efforts for not giving up on University education and also for working hard to graduate with a First Class.
